Join Us April 4 for The People’s March for Justice, Equity and Peace

“Continuing the Dream”
Candlelight Vigil and 50th Anniversary People’s March
In Remembrance of Dr. King
From Howard University to Ben’s Chili Bowl

Wednesday, April 4, 2018
5:30 – 7:30 PM

Start: Howard University – Georgia Ave & Howard Place, NW
End: Ben’s Chili Bowl, 1213 U St, NW

On April 4,1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated at 6:05PM in Memphis, TN. He joined the ancestors at 7:05PM. America’s anger could not be controlled. Over 120 cities exploded in a rage of rebellion. We remember!

DC leaders of SNCC (the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee) and Howard University graduates, whose office was across the street from Ben’s Chili Bowl, were able to convince the city and the National Guard to allow Ben’s to stay open even though the federal government imposed a curfew on the city due to the rebellion. SNCC organizers and city officials trying to end the violence needed a place to meet and eat. We will remember Dr. King 50 years later with our Candlelight Vigil and March to Ben’s on April 4.

Come march with us in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, Immigrant Rights, LGBTQ Rights, Stop Bullying, Stop Global Warming, Stop Gun Violence, Peace Now, and Women’s Rights.

We ask that all businesses on U Street from 5th Street to 16th Street place lighted electric candles in their windows from opening until closing on April 4 in honor of our King of Peace. Join us for the People’s March from Howard University to Ben’s Chili Bowl for speeches, music and where do we go from here? Ain’t gonna let nobody turn us around!

Please use #MLK50Years to join the conversation, tell your story, and share your memories from the march.
